How important is MSVC 6 support in MXFLib?

It has been suggested that future releases should not support version 6 and just go with VC7 for Windows compilation.

This would make life much easier in many ways as there have to be quite a few work-arounds to cope with features of MSVC 6

I'd argue, why not move to VC++ 2005.

I mean, Service Pack 1 is in release candiate, now. And for those who can't afford it, Visual Studio 2005 Express is available for the "cost" of registration:

The problem is more one of company policy.

Many companies have specific policies about what software they use, and often this is far from the latest. I know of companies that still insist on Windows 2000.

One of the key design principles of MXFLib is to make it as available as possible, so I am very keen to not cut off anyone that is not running the "latest and greatest" compiler.
