Post subject:  Identification of Codecs required to decode the Essence

Though the Essence Descriptors specify the Coding type of the Essence, the field representing this information is optional. In case this information is not available how do we determine the Essence type?

Thanks and Regards,
Raman

Generally there is enough information in the "Essence Container" property of the essence descriptor.

For example:

06 0e 2b 34 04 01 01 07 0d 01 03 01 02 0c 02 00

Signifies JPEG-2000 picture essence clip wrapped.

06 0e 2b 34 04 01 01 02 0d 01 03 01 02 04 60 01

Signifies that the essence is an ISO13818 MPEG elementary stream with stream ID 0x60 frame wrapped.

In both the above cases there is more information that could be carried using a coding UL, but the Essence Container UL gives sufficient to pass the stream to an appropriate decoder.

The definitive reference for these labels is RP 224
