How can we find out of the YUV format of the YUV pictures wrapped in MXF i.e is the sample order UYVY etc ?

This should be specified in the PixelLayout property of the essence descriptor.

Matt,

Pixel layout is a property of the RBGA descriptor, in case the file has uncompressed YUV pictures and the descriptor used is CDCI, the Pixel Layout information will not be available.

Here I am assuming that Uncompressed RGB pictures will have RGB descriptor and the Uncompressed YUV pictures will have CDCI descriptor.

Good point - for uncompressed images with 4:2:2 sampling the CDCI Descriptor may be used, in which case the samples should be as per ITU Rec 601.
